The Powell Music Studio has been offering

exceptional music lessons in Barrie
for the last 12 years.

This award winning studio offers VIOLIN lessons,

VIOLA lessons, CELLO lessons, MANDOLIN lessons and beginner guitar lessons.

Sherrie Powell of the Powell Music Studio in Barrie has been
teaching and giving VIOLIN lessons for many years, but
it was her years spent as a teacher with the Etobicoke Board
of Education where she gained her experience as a teacher
of all the orchestral stringed instruments.

Professional musicians available for live wedding music and other special occasions.

Experienced session musicians available for recording and performing.

Choosing a music school for your child is not something to be entered into lightly.
A good teacher will influence your child and develop positive attitudes that will follow them
throughout their lives, in the same way a bad teacher can inhibit and strip your child of
confidence.  Children need to be encouraged, to have their confidence level built up,
have good values and motivation instilled in them from a young age
if they are to be successful and happy adults.

It is important to meet the teacher that will be working with your child.
A good scenario is to arrange a meeting with the new teacher and your child
prior to signing up for lessons.  Many music schools use older students to teach
the new beginner students and quite often these student teachers may not be qualified
to be teaching and bad habits can easily form and be very hard to break at a later date.

Don't be afraid to ask for references.   This may not be important if you are only
looking to introduce your child to playing an instrument, however if you are hoping
to have your child progress through a series of Conservatory examinations then it is
important to have a qualified teacher who will be able to help your child get good results.

The Alpha Ensemble - string orchestra

As well as offering private music lessons The Powell Music Studio
has a string orchestra, The Alpha Ensemble that students
are encouraged to participate in.

Each summer the Powell Music Studio presents:

MEETING MUSIC - MAKING MUSIC

A summer music day camp where your child can further

their musical skills or learn to play a new instrument.
As well as having a music lesson there are many other
exciting activities to keep the students happy and busy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Sherrie has studied with some of the best teachers in Canada and England
such as Dorothy Lord, William Pleeth, David Zafer and Gerard Kantarjian
to name a few.  She studied performance violin at the University of Toronto,
Suzuki training at the University of Wisconsin and quartet studies at Aldeborough,
England's Quartet Academy founded by Sir Benjamin Britton.

Sherrie has been giving VIOLIN lessons for many years.

As well as teaching the violin she is an accomplished performer
and a sought after studio musician for recording sessions.

While teaching at the Etobicoke Board of Education, Sherrie became

a skilled cello teacher.  As well as giving cello lessons, Sherrie has
played the cello for recording sessions on other artists albums.

Sherrie's teaching skills are apparent with the ease
at which her students learn to play the VIOLA.

Sherrie also enjoys giving MANDOLIN lessons.  It is tuned the same
as the VIOLIN and is an easy cross over for a violinist.

Each year The Powell Music Studio presents a Christmas Concert for friends
and family of Sherrie's students.  It features The Alpha Ensemble, her orchestra
consisting of the more advanced students, as well as various solos, duets and quartets.
This is one of three concerts held throughout the year.

Our Christmas Concerts are always lots of fun for everyone.

There is no admission charge for any of the concerts offered throughout the year,

however a free-will offereing is usually accepted to support charitable work done
in Africa through the DevXchange International.

The Flip Side

As well as being an award winning teacher, Sherrie is a composer and professional musician
who has played in various orchestras, string quartets, trios and performed as a soloist.
Not confined to any one genre, she toured with "Brigand" an ecclectic folk rock band,
and played the Toronto club scene with her band "Sunday's Children".  More recently
she has toured Canada as part of a ministry duo playing, preaching and evangelizing.
In 2006 along with Deborah Leon they released their 6th. project, a contemporary Christian
music CD called: "Great Big God" which received airplay across Canada.  In 2007 the duo
became a trio with the addition of drummer John Par.  In 2008 they recorded their latest CD
called: "Out Of The Blue" which was released in January 2009 and is beginning
to get airplay on Christian radio stations across Canada.
